Stop Red Light Cameras in Florida

Take action to stop the use of these unconstitutional devices in the sunshine state

noredlightcams-thumb-195x195-19024.jpgThe push for automated enforcement devices (red light cameras) has been disguised as a safety measure. The law in Florida is a direct assault on liberty, as it does things like transfer the presumption of guilt onto the vehicle owner and restricts their ability to go to court (due process). We know that red light cameras are used only to increase revenue for local governments. They are not there to increase public safety. Notoriously, cities that lose money on the traffic infraction detectors invariably cancel their contracts and stop using them.

Instead of increasing the duration of yellow lights at traffic intersections, which has proved to save lives, the Florida Department of Transportation deliberately changed the state policy to reduce yellow light intervals to below federal recommendations. This substantially increased revenue from violations while increasing the risk to public safety. To make matters worse, Red Flex Traffic Solutions corporate officers have even been arrested and convicted for bribing local government officials to support installation of red light cameras.

How can you help put an end to the corruption, pay-offs and extortion surrounding the use of red light cameras?

3. Make Sure your legislators hear from you about this issue. If they do not, they assume you’re OK with keeping the cameras. CLICK HERE to find your State House Representative  and CLICK HERE to find your State Senator and let them know where you stand.

4. We need your support  On the issue of cameras, we’re grossly outspent and outnumbered by government and quasi-government lobbyists, many of whom are there on our tax dollars. We found that at the beginning of 2017, there were 3 pro-camera lobbyists for every opponent. This ratio will only get worse as more cities and counties pay lobbyists to oppose repeal of the cameras. Help us make sure that your voice is represented in Tallahassee this year.

2017 is the year we end the use of these unconstitutional devices in Florida but we need your help to make that happen.

The Libertarian Party of Orange County vehemently opposes the red light cameras in our county on both public safety and economic grounds. It is unacceptable that our city and county representatives ignore their constituents to punish and endanger Orange working class commuters to reward a well-connected Arizona company.
