SB 838 & HB 223 will phase out the commercial lease sales tax

Florida imposes a sales tax of six percent on the “total rent” charged under a commercial lease and Florida stands alone as the only state charging a business-rent tax on rent and utility expenses.

It is tough enough to start a small business in Florida with all the various fees, taxes and regulatory compliance costs. SB 838 and HB 223 will begin the phase out of the commercial lease sales tax and give some relief to small businesses.

Small schools who don’t own their buildings have this tax with which to contend making it harder to compete with the state sponsored monopoly on education.
