Enough is Enough, Let's Repeal the Cameras this Session!

After a few legislative sessions trying to reign in the abuses of Red Light Cameras piece by piece. This session we will again have the opportunity to completely repeal the use of Red Light Cameras in Florida. Senator Jeff Brandes has filed SB 168 which would repeal Red Light Cameras and the House companion bill should be out soon.

While this is great news, accomplishing this task will not be easy, especially in the Senate where Red Flex and American Traffic Solutions have heavily invested in campaign contributions and lobbyist to stop the repeal. We know that Red Light Cameras are being used to increase revenue for local governments and not being used for public safety. Why else would the cities that started losing money on the cameras have canceled their contract and ended their use?

Theses cameras are not profitable anymore and the Florida Department of Transportation was caught trying to quietly change the state policy on yellow light intervals below federal recommendations to force them to be profitable at the sake of the safety of the public. Shortening the yellow lights would increase ticket revenue, however,  numerous studies show that actually increasing the duration of yellow lights saves lives more than any cameras have shown. Red Flex Traffic Solutions corporate officers have even been arrested and convicted for bribing local government officials to support installing cameras.

It's time to end the corruption, the pay-offs and extortion surrounding the use of Red Light Cameras and we are committed in making this upcoming session the year that the cameras are finally turned off for good. We at Liberty First Network will be on the ground in Tallahassee fighting to pass SB 168, but we need your help locally to make sure legislators understand that they must support the repeal of Red Light Cameras. The Senators need to know that their local constituents are demanding the repeal of these cameras, and visiting the Senator in their local district office has more of an impact than just a phone call.

Here is what we would like you to do.

1. Call your State Senator's local district office and make an appointment to visit the Senator in person, and bring other local constituents with you. Ask them to support Senator Brandes's bill to end red light cameras here in Florida once and for all. Please e-mail us with any feedback you receive from the Senator, that way we can hold them accountable while we are speaking to them in Tallahassee.

3. Share this message with your like minded friends. We will need as many people as possible to counter the special interest influence in Tallahassee. Email this message to everyone you know and share this on your social media.

4. Donate to the Liberty First Network. It is with a combination of your calls and interaction with your representative along with the actions that John and Danielle will be doing in Tallahassee that will make us successful. We plan on being up there for the entire session along with the committee weeks but that costs money. Your donations will help us stay up there to fight to eliminate these red light cameras.
